Measuring and Mounting – Tips from the Expert

For the correct determination of measurements in your home, we aid you by sending an exclusive scale and detailed instructions on how to measure correctly with your first order. This service is free and will be delivered to your home.

To correctly determine the length of your curtain, one needs to measure the distance from the bottom edge of the curtain rod or track to the floor. A 2m yardstick should work best for these measurements.

Depending on weather you want your curtain to ski the floor or slightly hover above in the air, you should also let us know about possible allowances or deductions at the seams.

If you want the curtain to skim the floor, please add 2 cm to the measured height. If the curtain is not meant to skim the floor, please subtract 2 cm from the height. The length you determine that way should be entered into the field “final height” when you order. This is where you can find it:

Floors and window sills are hardly ever level. Please make sure you measure the height in various spots and make sure to let us know the shortest measurement.

Depending on the kind of curtain, the length can be varied afterwards by re-positioning or changing the hooks, usually by +/- 1 cm.

Measuring the width of the curtain

This measurement includes the window opening plus overhang. The overhang should be sufficient in size. It depends on the width of the window (at least 25 cm on each side).

Sometimes you will find a curtain track reaching from one wall to another. In this case, please also measure the length from wall to wall.

Afterwards you can choose how much fabric addition the curtain should contain (double or three times the amount of one panel). This fabric addition influences the appearance of the creasing of the curtain. Depending on the curtain tape, you can choose which amount of fabric your curtain should contain.

Room situation 1

In a room where two windows are located next to each other, aesthetic reasons have us recommending two separate curtain rods with the specific curtains for mounting on the wall.

To achieve a pleasant look and a beneficial way of use, the wall rod should overlap the width of the window by 20 cm on either side, so that the window decoration can be pushed far aside when opening the curtains. By that the window appears larger and the room gains the necessary amount of daylight.

Room situation 2

For a large window with less space in the upper portion of the room for two separate curtains, for example in older buildings, ceiling rails are a perfect solution, giving you the optimal result. Again, it’s advisable to overlap the width of the window by 20 cm.

If you want to have two curtain parts for your window, halve the width of the window (plus the respective overhang, if applicable) of the window. This is how you obtain the measure of the area of both curtain parts.

The length measurement is again measured from the bottom edge of the rod or rail to the floor. If that If you want the curtain to be overlayed, please add 2 cm to the height. If the curtain is not to be placed, please pull off 2 cm from the height.

Room situation 3

For a curtain that is only pushed to the left or only to the right, you also measure the closed as well as the remaining overhang (of rail or rod), if any is. The length of your curtain rail indicates the width of the area to be covered.

The length of your curtain is again measured from the bottom edge of the rod or rail to the floor.  If the curtain should be supported, add 2 cm to the height. If the curtain is not to be placed, subtract 2 cm from the height.
